The Green Tree Inn of Elsah is a true Bed and Breakfast offering a gourmet home-cooked breakfast each morning and homemade snacks each afternoon.
Connie started cooking when she was a young girl. She grew up on a farm, and it was her responsibility to have dinner on the table when the family came in from doing the evening chores.
Connie now brings her love of cooking to the Bed and Breakfast. You will find her in the kitchen early each morning making a lovingly prepared breakfast. We enjoy getting to visit with our guests during breakfast and lingering over coffee is encouraged.
Each afternoon, guests are treated to a homemade “Sweet Treat.” You never know what you will find waiting for you on the dining room table. Will it be:
- chocolate cake
- chocolate chip cookies
- apple crisp
- peanut butter cookies
- carrot cake
- gooey butter cake
- or another delicious homemade treat?
If you are coming for your Birthday, please let Connie know in advance and she will do her best to have your favorite cake waiting for you.
Each morning guests are treated to a DELICIOUS GOURMET breakfast.
Each breakfast starts with fruit. When fresh fruit is in season, each guest is served a fresh fruit parfait topped with yogurt. In winter months, guests are treated to a warm baked fruit to start the morning.
A few examples include:
- Baked Apples with Craisins, Raisins and Pecans
- Poached Pears
- Baked Apples with French Cream.
Next comes the main course! How about:
- German Apple Pancakes
- Hashbrown Quiche loaded with fresh vegetables
- Amish Casserole
- Stuffed French Toast
- Eggs in a Basket
- Baked Eggs
- Baked Omelet
- Upside Down Peach/Blueberry Pancake
Or what about one of the many kinds of homemade breads including:
- Blueberry Sour Cream
- Pecan Strudel Coffee Cake
- Poppy Seed bread.
Each breakfast includes some sort of eggs, meat and a bread. All of which are homemade.
Guests are also served fresh-ground Park Avenue Coffee and their choice of juice. There is also a variety of Stash Tea to choose from for a cup of hot tea.
Do you have food allergies or dislikes? No worries, we are happy to accommodate your food concerns such as gluten free, lactose intolerance, vegan or vegetarian.
Breakfast is a time to slow down and enjoy the food, the coffee and the conversation. Seconds are welcomed and encouraged. Connie has a firm rule that no one leaves the table hungry.
